The statue of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827), studied under Haydn in Vienna. Beethoven became deaf at the age of 32. Calling himself "poet in music", Beethoven's music mirrored his beliefs in the prevailing of individualism by emphasizing presonal expression over traditional form.
