Guadeloupe consists of two large islands (joined by a mangrove swamp) Basse-Terre, volcanic and mountainous, and Grande-Terre, limestone and flat. Grande-Terre north of the le Moule/Morne à l'eau boundary is an important cane growing area. The climate is very dry.
