"The Kalenjin attacked the tea plantations owned by the Kikuyu but they knew the government - Kibaki's government - would send the Army. The army's made up of Kalenjin, but soldiers are paid by the government and they are loyal to the government. We were terrified. Helicopters buzzing over our heads and they were coming to kill us. All the women and children and the old men - the men led us into the fields and we hid in the plantations. We lay down on the cold ground beneath the tea bushes. My sister and I hugged each other for warmth. It was so cold. If I wasn't slaughtered I'd freeze to death."
