It was the wolves and the photography of Jim Brandenburg which first lured me here in 2002, but having had a week soloing the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, I returned in 2003 for another week of solitude, paddling and portaging. Not as many photos as I would have liked, but the holiday was more about the canoeing, plus in 2002 my SLR was in a waterproof sack, not the best place to have to remove it from with frequency. 2003 was better, taking a Canon Ixus compact, handy on my waist, but it can still be a challenge using even a simple camera in a moving canoe!
The scenery of birch trees, lakes, rivers and rock doesn't change a huge amount, but it is a great chance to be alone in a most tranquil place and watch shores and wildlife slipping past with only the splashing of my paddle to disturb the peace.
