In complete contrast to the city itself, today I paid a long-overdue visit to Ecclesall Woods, on the south-west of Sheffield: 140 hectares of ancient semi-natural woodland, the largest in South Yorkshire. Only a short visit, as the light was very variable, and the day - of course - short at this time of year.
