Tuatara - Sphenodon punctatus

This reptile, along with a related species on the Brothers Island are related to a group of reptiles that flourished 200 million years ago. They are unusual in that two rows of teeth in the upper jaw overlap a single row in the lower jaw. It has been found that even mice can be significant predators of tuatara eggs and young preventing breeding success.
