This is a model of the Laird Turner LTR-14 Meteor which I built in Maya 2011.
The Laird Turner Meteor was one of the most famous aircraft of the golden age of air racing which took place in the 1920s through the 1930s. The aircraft was built by Roscoe Turner in 1936 and raced in 1937 through 1939. In 1937 Turner placed third at the National Air Races after missing a pylon. He won the National Air Race Thompson Trophy in 1938 with a speed of 283 mph. Roscoe Turner won again in this aircraft in 1939. He is the only back to back winner of the trophy. The Laird Turner LTR-14 aircraft was retired shortly after with a total of only 30 hours flying time. It is currently a part of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
