After a lengthy selection procedure (televised in episodes on Dutch television) the teenager Jamai became the official 'Pop Idol of the Netherlands 2003'. The publicity surrounding the contest achieved unprecedented heights. Jamai was suddenly a public figure and not just an average Dutch teenager anymore. He took a giant leap to being a national star, followed everywhere by a huge amount of young fans. He competed in the 'World Idols 2003' competition, but ended last. The Idol from Norway became the official World Idol 2003.
