2007.01.28 The chestnut death ray

Johnson Rd, Wan Chai

I know not everyone agrees with me (in fact I'm inexplicably in the minority on this one) but I have always disliked the smell of roasting (or, more accurately in most cases, burning) chestnuts, which is quite common on the streets in the evening. To me it smells a bit sickly-sweet, and anyway, I can practically feel the cancers starting when I smell it (*). But I never knew the smoke could dissolve people!

(*) BTW Of course I have no scientific evidence for this; it's just a feeling. But breathing any sort of smoke is generally a bad idea ... right? All those carcinogenic active carbon compounds ...

Rob, I can't take credit for the "color world" bit as I didn't notice the meaning of the words until you pointed it out! Thanks!!

Good catch and the story is clear (V)
Further it is a kind of monotome color there and then the sign above: COLOR WORLD !!!

:-))) You made a good point and captured a good illustrative shot. The smoke seemed to be consuming the man!

LOL! Sorry I don't share your sentiment on the chestnuts, but seeing the death ray, I might reconsider. A vote for the photo and the narrative.
