2007.01.17 But where are the dancing girls?

Preah Pithu(?), Angkor, Cambodia

The guide we had on the first day of sightseeing had mentioned dancing girls in connection with these temples. I couldn't quite understand the story, but I assume they are long gone. Or maybe it was too early in the evening.

This was taken some time after sunset. The day before this, we passed these temples just before sunset, and were amazed by the light shining on the stone. But we were in too much of a hurry - chasing shots (which didn't really materialise) at Phnom Bakheng. We came back the next day for some shots, but the light - while interesting - wasn't the same. As usual I probably should have stopped for the shot when I saw it.

Having said that, I do very much like this shot (which I wouldn't have got if we had stopped the first time) so I'm not actually sorry.

A few minutes after this, we were told we had to leave (as it's not permitted to remain on the site when it gets dark)

Dancing girls? Interesting. I particularly like your right portion with the old temple and tree contrasting against the beautiful blue sky. Kind of moody and dramatic.
