2006.07.10 It's curry and chips.

Sonthra Kebab, O'Brien Rd, Wan Chai

I have posted a picture from Sonthra Kebab once before (in March), and I still eat there often. (Tonight I had the lamb briyani, which I recommend to anyone who likes this sort of food.) It's a tiny little place, with two 2-person tables inside (I had one of them) and as many tables outside as may be needed at the time.

I was watching as I ate, and it seemed that approximately a quarter of the people walking past the outside tables had a really good look at that meal. So I stopped eating for a moment to take a few pictures.

Overall I'm disappointed with the E900's noise characteristics. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but this picture has been severely Noise Ninja'd and I'm still far from happy with the noise level. It may not be too obvious at the size posted on PBase though.

Against that, if I took any shots with the 350D I expect the guy in front of me would have noticed immediately, instead of continuing to eat unaware of imminent fame (I wish!).

Also, maybe I'm just getting older, but I was pre-focussing and trying to press the shutter button as soon as I became aware of someone visible past the wall on my left. But they all got at least this far into the frame by the time the shutter went.

Nice shot and nice food too. Looks very delicious. Shall give it a try during the summer holiday.

it is all a balance. i agree with the lack of surreptitiousness with the modern day dslr (eg 350d...shutter click too noisy as well). unlike the days of the leica (not that i owned one...just 'heard' about it). :)

Oh, I agree it still worked out quite well - but it seems my reactions are a little slower than I would like. If I need an excuse, I could always say I was waiting to see if the person was looking at the plate, before taking the shot. Only it's not true ... as is obvious from some of the ones I didn't post!!

I think you're being too hard on yourself. It's a good timing and framing, but most importantly you captured his look at the meal, both the diner and the passerby. Well done.
