Fong Auntie had told us that soft serve ice cream is all the rage in Japan, and it seemed to be true.

This raised walkway goes from the car park up to a view point near the lakes in Shiretoko NP. (Sorry, I don't know the name of the lakes.) Although you can't see it, there is an electric fence running at the bottom of the walkway, presumably to discourage the bears which are common in this area. Getting to the lakes themselves involved a more precarious pathway, shown in other shots (not yet posted as I write this).
