Huanchaco is a small fishing village on the north-central coast of Perú, just north of the much larger city of Trujillo. Huanchaco is a quiet place, known especially for its unique fishing vessels, the "Caballitos de Tortora", or little horses of reeds. The reeds grow on the north end of the beach and are fashioned into "Caballitos" by the locals. The fisherman use short gill nets, and go out and return each morning when the surf is not too great. There was a good catch of flounder (lenguado), catfish (bagre) and mullet (lisa) the mornings I was there. You'll find some of the best cebiche in all Perú in Huanchaco (check at the restaurants Big Ben and Huanchaco Beach).

The photos in this gallery were taken over the course of 3 days. However, I've tried to arrange them to represent a single day, sunrise to sunset. Some are not what I'd consider my best efforts, but I hope they serve to tell a story and provide some of the ambiance that is Huanchaco.
