I was born in 1928, grew up in 1254 Sherman Ave. at 167th st. Could see to The Concourse from our first apartment. Went to P.S. 90, EBB Jr. Hi, Walton Hi and Hunter College.

The concourse was the neatest place inthew 50s. I loved going to Loews and a big department store with great candy.

I lived on Jerome Ave (under the El) between Kingsbridge & West 192 St (across the street from St. James Park); attended PS 86 from 1937 to 1945 & then DeWitt C. Knew the VA home, Kingsbridge hill, the Armory, Paradise Theatre, etc., like the back of my hand. Kingsbridge Armory used to have midget auto races. My father built the bar at Fitzgeralds (southwest corner of Jerome & Kingsbridge). Used to roll down the thickly padded stairs at the Paradise. Eventually worked at the Dollar Savings Bank on Grand Concourse & met my wife there

i am so in love with these pictures,i lived on sedgwick avenue and off of kingsbridge road where the veterans home was, and the infamous hill at kingsbridge road and heath ave. daly ave and so forth. i went to p.s.86 where by the way the armory on kingsbridge road and jerome avenue connected, those were the days my boy. my mom would olay cards with friends and would send me to the kingsbridge theatre to see the movies and give the matron five cents to look after me till she came to pick me up. mt fatrher would take my mom and me to the paradise theatre on saturday night to see . movie and look at the skyline at the stars and the clouds,what a place that was
