St Lawrence vs Collégiale LaCité M-Basketball 02-12-11
KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 12, 2011) – Mackenzie Simpson (#24) scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the first half to lead the St. Lawrence College Kingston men’s basketball team to an 85-44 victory over La Cite Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings improve to 12-5 overall and remain tied with Durham for second place in the OCAA East Division, after Durham posted the biggest upset of the weekend defeating top-ranked Algonquin 84-76 Friday night. La Cite falls to 3-16 overall.
From the outset, it was all Simpson as he scored the first five points of the game helping the Vikings to a 10-0 lead at 18:24. Warsama Elmi banked in four points for the Coyotes to cut the deficit to six points at 10-4, but that was the closest it would get with the Vikings building the double-digit lead to as many as 21 points at 39-18 on a couple of free throws by Simpson at 3:15. SLC Kingston commanded the first half and went into the break ahead 39-22.
The second half allowed the Vikings to use their bench and Casey McDonald (#5) took full advantage of some extra playing time netting a season-high 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Mcdonald also grabbed four rebounds, which is also a new season high for the forward. The Vikings extended their lead to 41 points after Malcolm Ramsay (#11) pulled up just behind the arc to drain a three-pointer for an 81-40 advantage with 3:20 left to play and cruised to the victory down the stretch.
Along with his 25 points, Simpson added 10 rebounds to tally his first double-double of the season. Terence Thomas (#30) had 14 points in the win, while McDonald and Ramsay added 10 points each. Vladimir Decady registered 19 points and 15 rebounds for La Cite.
The Vikings controlled the boards outrebounding the Coyotes 63-39. The Vikings shot 43.3 percent from the floor, while La Cite shot only 25 percent from the field.
