SCRAPY DEFENSE KEY TO VICTORY
Vikings rely on steals in turnovers in 91-54 victory over Durham College

(Kingston, ON) Improving to eight consecutive victories, and remaining undefeated at home this season, the Vikings women's basketball team defeated the visiting Durham Lords 91-54, improving their record to 13-1.

"We definitely got after the ball on defense tonight, and our offense took care of itself" said head coach, Remy Simpson.

"The girls played great defense all game, made some great steals, and forced Durham to turn the ball over." Simpson added.

The Vikings were clicking early on the first quarter with great ball movement and stiff defense, which resulted in several Durham turnovers, and SLC taking a quick 9-2 lead. The strategy would cause the Lords to quickly reach five fouls, sending the Vikings to the line.

Throughout the first half, SLC heavily guarded the current OCAA leading scorer, Lindsay Panchan, who averages 25 points per game, forcing Durham to make tough plays and get production from other players. Trying to distribute the ball, Durham had the ball stolen five times in the second quarter as the Vikings continued to control the pace of the game.

Up 45-20 to start the second half, the Vikings kept with their strategy of hard and physical defense pressing the Lords on every possession, resulting in several Durham turnovers. Taylor Andrews checked into the game late in the third and had two great assists right away.

It was more of the same in the fourth quarter, with the Vikings focused on picking off the Durham pass, and letting their offense control the game in the 91-54 victory.

Sammy Gourdier played a great game, driving the net, hitting several three-pointers, and making tough shots, finishing with 17 points. Jackie Rodgerson was on fire from the three-point line all game, going 5/6, with a team high 24 points.

The Vikings couldn't contain Panchan in the second half, who finished with 32 points.
