As part of the Royal Military College Copper Sunday, approximately 800 Officer Cadets attended morning services at St. George's Anglican Cathedral, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Chursch, Sydenham United Church, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral, St. Francis d'Assise (RC), Chalmer's United Church, and St. Mark's Anglican Church.
Copper Sunday was established as a sharing tradition at St. Andrew's in 1880 where Officer Cadets first took handfuls of copper pennies, throwing them towards the offering plate to make as much noise as they could. The tradition continues today but gone is the boisterous racket of earlier days. Officer Cadets now pour accumulated pennies into the plate from military-issue black socks.
