Queen's Men's Basketball Tindall Invitational - Tournament Recap


KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels are hosting their annual Tindall Invitational tournament this weekend as they welcome UNB and UQAM to the Queen's Athletics and Recreation Centre.

FRIDAY
QUEEN'S vs UNB

The Gaels defence made the difference in an 82-66 win over UNB to start the men's side of the Tindall Invitational tournament on Friday night.

The Gaels held the Varsity Reds to just 29.6% shooting from the floor while scoring at a pace of 47.5% themselves. Queen's was able to outscore UNB by seven in each of the first two frames to open up a 41-27 lead at the break.

The two sides kept pace with one another in the second half with Queen's winning 82-66. The Gaels were led by 19 points from Quinton Gray who also added six assists. UNB saw a balanced attack but were led by 16 points from Tyrell Leotaud.

Queen's will get Saturday off while UNB will meet UQAM.

SATURDAY
UQAM vs UNB

After a tough loss to the Gaels yesterday, the UNB Varsity Reds picked up a 91-73 win over the UQAM Citadins.

It was a dominating win for the Varsity Reds who outscored the Citadins in each quarter.

Tyrell Leotaud had 19 points which led UNB, with Ibrahima Doumbouya and Daniel Levitt close behind with 18 points. Doumbouya had 14 rebounds to record a double-double in a physically dominant performance.

For UQAM, Alix Lochard had a strong game shooting a very efficient 10-13 with 23 points.

SUNDAY
UQAM vs QUEEN'S

The Gaels closed out the tournament with an 89-64 win over the UQAM Citadins to go to 2-0 over the weekend.

After a close first quarter, the Gaels took 41-34 lead into halftime when they outscored the Citadins 22-14 in the second frame.

They wouldn't allow UQAM to gain any type of momentum out of the break as they outscored the Citadins 48-30 in the second half.

The Gaels shot a tremendous 50.7% from the field while holding the Citadins to just 33.8% shooting. They also forced the Citadins to commit 21 turnovers which they then converted into 23 points.

Jaz Bains led the way with 21 points on 8-16 shooting, including 4 buckets from three-point range.

Meanwhile, the Citadins were led by Alix Lochard who had a very strong tournament. On Sunday, Lochard posted a double-double which included 18 points and 14 rebounds.
