Queen's at St Lawrence College M-Rugby 09-10-10

KINGSTON, Ont. (Friday, Sept. 10, 2010) – With a crowd of over 1,000 fans, Spirit Day kicked off the St. Lawrence College Vikings 2010-11 Varsity season Friday, Sept. 10 with the men’s rugby team defeating a squad from Queen’s University 24-15 at the North Field in Kingston, Ont.
“This was an unbelievable start of the season for our squad,” Men’s Rugby Head Coach Brad Greenwood said. “The team fed off the great atmosphere, the crowd and home field advantage.”
Radio personalities Jim Elyot and Jennifer Oag from The Drive 98.9 hosted the afternoon and kept the crowd energized with free giveaways and contests.
The Gaels got on the scoreboard first, but the Vikings’ Phil Assad, Cody Glasner, Tyrone Brown and Eric Jadowski scored tries, while Brown and Cody Strickland added converts in the win. Josh Ferreira led the Gaels with two tries.
Today marks the beginning of the 2010-11 Vikings Varsity season, with regular season competition starting Saturday, Sept. 18, with men’s rugby, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s soccer all slated to compete.
NB: The Queen's University Varsity M-Rugby team are the 2010 OUA Champs, and the rugby programme there is seven squads deep. Members of the lower teams competed in today's friendly.
