Canadian Olympic-training Regatta Kingston, CORK takes place the last two weeks of August and has done so since 1974. It is an international sailing event with racers of all ages coming from far and wide. Races are mostly one design, including Lasers, 29ers, Optimist Dinghys, Kite Boards, Sail Boards and Off Shore Boats to name a few. These images are of the launching of Lasers, Optees, and 420s. A couple of hundred boats are launched in rapid succession and it behooves the skippers on the water to get under and out of the way now. This was complicated by a lack of wind in the harbour and the boats literally had to work their way out of there. Amazingly all done in good cheer no shouting or yelling and unbelievably I only heard one small collision. The kids are preteens to young teens and this is a great form of instruction in the arts of personal responsibly, self reliance and good sportsmanship.
