Vickers Super Marine Seafire 47

Fortine Montana - Crytal Lakes

We asked why this had two sets of props. Without remembering technical details the engine it has provides such great torque that without the sort of opposing prop angles the plane would spin from the torgue and power. Don't hold me to every word there, ha ha. It was one of my favorites. Evidently there aren't many in existence. They didn't perform up to promises and many were catapulted off a carrier into the sea. This one was at base for maintenance and survived.

Cockpit appears to be way back but is not. I have other photos if anyone interested. The Seafire was designed for the British aircraft carriers as the torque was so great it could not keep a straight line. I believe the last version of the RR Merlin produced close to 2,400 HP or 200 HP per cylinder. I am pretty sure this is the only restored Seafire flying. It was a static display on a pedastal at the entrance to a British Airbase when Jim purchased it.

That cockpit is way back in the fuselage.

The propellers spin in opposite directions, which eliminates torque.
