March of the Mango Bolsas
< Dulcería Arco-Iris, Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. México >
Inside the Mercado of Pátzcuaro, lies the Aladdin's Cave of the Dulcería Arco-Iris. In this compact space lie hundreds of candy and snack varieties.
It is run by the congenial Sr. Pedro, who speaks both English and Spanish.
The effect is at times phantasmagoric, which is reflected in some of the special effects I have applied to a few photos.
candy stand
A small dulces shop in the mercado is irresistible to passersby.
Candy Daze
Coke Bottles, gomitas de rompope, mango gums with chile, gummi worms, sours, on and on. Mix and match for 14 pesos a quarter kilo.
< Carnicerías: Butcher shops >
WARNING Contains raw, earthy scenes.
These scenes were photographed at Carnicería La Norteña, in the Mercado de Pátzcuaro. It's a "slice of life"
We like shopping there because of the good humor of Hugo, the Jefe de los Carniceros; Frank, "El Carnicero de Hierro", his right-hand man; as well as the custom cut, custom- ground meats we have bought there. The chuletas ahumadas (smoked porkchops) are especially tender and succulent.
El tocino (bacon) is lean and delicious, hand sliced by Águstin or one of his assistants. Ask for whatever thickness you wish, and he will cut it off the slab as you like.
< La Comida de La Vigilia En el Mercado de Pátzcuaro >
Lenten foods are served on Fridays during Cuaresma in the Mercado.
