Just north of Vegacervera del Torio, León, are the Hoces de Vegacervera-impressively precipitous limestone gorges. After a mile or two, the highway emerges from the gorge, at the foot of a winding road which ascends to the village and show-cave of Valporquero. (One of the most attractive caves in Spain, in a spectacular mountain karst setting)
At the junction below is the Hostal y Restaurante El Pescador. we didn't check out the hostal, although its exterior is attractive. T he restaurant, however, served us a fantastic meal at a bargain price: tabla de embutidos, caldo de cocido, fabada, salmon a la parilla, vino blanco, agua mineral, pan. It came to 17€ for two. Perhaps there was an error in the bill?
Definitely worth another visit. Next time, we hope to stay overnight.
