John H. Merrill was the youngest of six children born to Samuel Merrill & his wife, Martha Whiston Merrill. He was born in Nantwich, County Chestershire England & came with his family to the United States. He eventually settled in Pleasant Dale Nebraska where he served as both prominent merchant & Mayor.
