Advice for a newbie: As a newbie I speak from experience. Ask questions. Ask for critiques. There are many knowledgeable, talented photographers who are willing to help. Also ask family and friends which photos they like best. I have found my favorite version is often not the most popular one. It's hard to be objective, IMO.
