Challenge 55 "Scavenger Hunt" hosted by mn88

Challenge 55:

And what’s on the scavenger list you ask? You’ve heard the old saying – “One person’s garbage is another’s treasure?” Although it’s a type of photography I don’t shoot a lot of, I’ve come to greatly appreciate how photographers can turn an old abandoned rusty car or a broken glass bottle into something intriguing and perhaps even beautiful through their photography. What is it exactly that is so appealing about those things that were once strong or bright and shiny, but have fallen so far from their original state? Does it have something to do with how they contrast with the natural world? Is it that they’ve gained in character and have become more interesting and unique than they were brand new? Or is it perhaps that they say something to us about ourselves?

Your challenge is to seek out some “man-made” product that has been used and then thrown out or abandoned and photograph it in whatever way you see fit in order to make it as fascinating as possible. Let me be clear – permanent structures such as houses, barns and sheds are not on the scavenger list, though may be in the photo. As well, products that have been recycled and are currently being used are not on the scavenger list.

Abandoned vehicles, food containers, household appliances, pretty much any man-made consumable product that has been thrown away - garbage if you will – are all on the scavenger list. Also, please photograph your treasure in the state you find it in – no planting of elements! Oh, and after you finish shooting, please feel free to clean up what you’ve found (if it’s small) and help out the environment.

The general guidelines are located here and cover most aspects of the challenge: https://pbase.com/otfchallenge/challenge_rules_guidelines

(Oly dSLR’s are included) The Exhibition gallery is located here and all are encouraged to submit up to two photos. Exhibition photos DO NOT need to be from an Olympus camera. https://pbase.com/otfchallenge/challenge_55_exhibition
