Challenge 11: The Beauty of Black and White (hosted by laLady)


Challenge Period: April 26 until May 5, 2003 at 12pm Noon EDT (Find Your TimeZone)

Overview: Back to the basics! This challenge will explore the techniques of creating photographs using only black, white and the 256 shades of gray. (No duotones, quadtones, IR or any other deviation will be allowed.) You can start with a photo taken using the B&W Mode or convert a color photo using postprocessing in your image editing program. Challenge Gallery
The Rules:Have fun!  This should be a learning experience so don't be afraid to try something new. Everyone is encouraged to leave comments and suggestions at the bottom of each image in both the Challenge and Exhibition galleries. To promote a learning environment and the exchange of helpful suggestions, the Challenge Gallery will be accessible throughout this challenge (not hidden!). Photographer's identities will be hidden until the voting is complete. 
Two entries per person may be submitted using any Olympus brand camera.Limit the photo size to a maximum of 800x600 pixels. 
Entries must contain a photo in B&W. No duotones, quadtones, IR  or any other deviation will be allowed. You may submit a photo taken in your camera's B&W Mode or postprocess a color photo in your photo editor using any method. 
No animation is allowed in this challenge. 
Challenge Gallery: Image must be taken during the Challenge Period. (see above)Submit photos using the subject line Challenge Gallery to laLady at  webphoto@cox.net  or to El-See at otfchallenge@cox.net and include: Title of your photoPhotographer's name - (your DP Review name is just fine)The date the photo was takenThe Olympus camera model used. Include EXIF info if available.
Exhibition Gallery:  Submit photos using the subject line Exhibition Gallery to webphoto@cox.net
You may submit up to 3 of your B&W photos. 
You do not have to enter the Challenge in order to submit photos to the Exhibition Gallery. 
Non-Olympus camera photos are welcome! Voting:One vote per person. 
You cannot vote for your entry. 
Others cannot vote under your logon. 
You must vote for the first through fifth places. 
Any votes that do not follow the rules will be disqualified.
