Extra ammo of course! No, it's kinda weatherproof, so the summit register notebooks go in there. People also leave mementos, trinkets, flags, etc. Lots of flags nowadays.

I didn't say we opened it did I? Well, it actually says: "Packed with dessicant DO NOT OPEN until ready for use or inspection." We followed the instructions quite closely. We opened it, inspected the contents, then used the pen to sign the register.
