Merkez Fatih Mosque, Besikduzu, Trabzon

This is an interesting Mosque in Besikduzu. First its name creates confusion. This is Merkez Fatih Mosque as oppose to the Merkez Mosque. As a matter of fact, a good friend of mine from Besikduzu tells me that there exists only three mosques in the town: the Old Mosque, Merkez and the Merkez Fatih mosques.

Secondly, the construction of this mosque is rather unique because of its two half shaped domes cascading over one another. The one half that faces towards the south-east cascades the other one facing directly opposite towards the north-west. So the elevation difference of these domes provides the entry of natural light which creates soft color saturation on the green and blue tiles of the walls… Enjoy…
