Población minera situada a 2770m sobre el nivel del mar, la más alta de la República Mexicana. Se localiza a 103 km de la Cd de México dentro del corredor Turístico de la Montaña. En 1799 se registró aquí el primer movimiento laboral de huelga en contra del empresario minero Pedro Romero de Terreros y fue también el lugar en donde se realizó por primera vez un partido de fútbol en México (deporte traído por los ingleses). For Don Pengelly - As a child I lived in Pachuca. Mass was celebrated underground once a year. The mine you refer to was La Purisima. Harold Pengelly (H. F.) was Assistant Mine Captain under Jack Clifford until Jack's death in a car accident in about 1950. I believe he assumbe the job of Mine Capt. of La purisima after Jack's death. Harold was also British Vice Consol in Pachica for many years. He and his wife Frances (Dunstan), from Tuckingmill, had three children, David the oldest who I last saw in the Los Angeles area around 1962. Jimmy died in a car accident in the area of Pampa, Texas after service in Korea. Beth was married and lived for many years in Corpus Christi, Texas. A good reference on the Cornish miners in Pachuca is The Search For Silver Cornish Miners In Mexico by A. C. Todd Copywright 1977, Reprinted 1981. Another ref. is En Pos de la Plata by Alan Probert (1901 - 1985) as translated to Spanish by Lucia Vera Graciano and published by Compania Real del Monte in 1987 from several articles originally published in The Journal of the West.

Hello to all. My family was orginally from Pachuca. My great grandfather, Thomas Pengelly and his wife Jane Brown migrated to Pachuca in 1844. My grandfather, Fredrick Pengelly managed a farm or ranch outside Pachuca for one of the large mining companies in Pachuca. Several of my uncles worked in the mines there. I am not sure which ones. Does anyone know? They also created an underground worship center in one of the mines. I visited this in 1966 or 1967 but I do not remember which mine. Does anyone know? Several of my uncles included Harold, William (Willey), Albert, Thomas, Fredrick, Harry and Johnny. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
