Ace Farm

 

A vertically integrated poultry farm located on

County Route 105, Monroe, NY 10949

 

Ace Farm is the only poultry farm remaining in Orange County.  Tyler Etzel, Jr. and his cousin, Michael Grindrod, work this farm as Tyler’s family has for nearly 100 years.  The Ace Farm property is rich in history.  The Ryder family homestead and its existing home dates to the 1770’s.  William Owens, Sr. also inhabited another still standing home in the 1830’s.  The current owners, the Etzel family, have lived on the property since 1911 when George and Mary Etzel bought 130 acres at the current location.  Their son, Alfred Charles Etzel started the farm in 1917.  It was named Ace Farm during the Great Depression and shifted from goats to poultry and eggs in the 1930’s.  Alfred was instrumental in the formation of the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District and the high school athletic field is named after him.  In 1949 his son Tyler joined the business and in 1972 Tyler’s son, Tyler Jr. joined the Ace farm management.

 

Today Tyler Jr. and Mike Grindrod take good care of Ace Farm’s 135,000 chickens that produce 100,000 eggs a day.  The farm is vertically integrated growing much of its own corn and using its own feed mill to help feed the chickens.  They market, price and deliver all of the farm’s eggs within a 30-mile radius of the farm.  Even the chicken manure is handled in a sound ecologically safe manner which also produces another source of income.  Berries are also grown including “pick-your-own” and a farm store open to the public.
