Hello, I have only been to Superior as a kid, when my grandma took me. She was born & raised there from 1923 to about 1954, then moved to California. She told MANY stories of Superior & it was obvious of how much she missed it. I know her heart belonged there & I wished she would have seen it one more time before she passed in 2003. But I have always been fascinated with this town, even more so because of the stories she told, and I am eager to visit! Thank you for the photos, I think they're awesome & helpful in having a little insight & vision of my grandma's hometown :)

Nice pics Jeff. I was born/raised in Superior and still reside there. All these are buildings I see everyday. I'm really don't realize how fortunate I am to be surrounded by all this history until someone that's not around it everyday points out how beautiful it is. Thanks for the reminder...

thank you those are great pictures.half of my better half family are intered in that same cemetary.my dear mother of 79 yrs old at her passing.you never know do you?but this boosted my own nostalgia. once again thank you.

In one article there is a plaque mentioned outside the Magma Hotel noting the death of Celia ann Blylock (Mattie Earp). Do any of you remember seeing such a plaque oe have any idea where it might be now?

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the memories. I lived in Superior from 1969 to 1976. My Grandfather, Tobe Hegwood worked at the smelter as a blacksmith. I remember he would come home from work sooo dirty! I went to Harding elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, and Superior High School. The Panthers were an incredible football team. We won state championships! I have a hard time going back there now. I remember things as really booming and now it's like a ghost town. Really hurts my heart to see the Magma Hotel collapsing. My great grandmother lived there and I remember it as a truly lovely hotel. Used to be, my friends and I would go outside of town, catch some horses (belonging to local residents, and take a ride to go swimming out at "The Pits" below where the Apache Tears mine used to be. Some drunks shot my friend's pony there. Superior has it's interesting side, but it also has an ugly core. I believe it is haunted by myriad old spirits. Evil resides there. You couldn't pay me enough to ever live there again!

I spend my growing years in Superior--went to the grade school and dad worked in the mine. always wanted to go to the top of apache leap--now 69 and still want o make the climb--thanks fo the memorys--Billy

Great Pics. I lived in Superior as a small girl. I now live in ID, but get very homesick. It was great seeing the old pics and remembering. Would love to see more of the old town, downtown and residence.

Jeff Looking at your photos in this gallery and your others bring back alot of memories for me. I grew up in the Globe-Miami area(actually Claypool)in the late 40's and graduated in 1963 from Miami High School. I now live in Glendale and purchased a Nikon D70 about a year ago and having alot of fun with it. Lastly, the photos and story of your daughter Tarina were very moving and I'm sure she is missed very much.
