66 Chevelle Super Sport

39th Ave and Krall Phoenix Arizona

my 66 Chevelle Super Sport with P.J. Waters driving the car at about 3 PM

This car came to me without a motor. Originally it had a 396 cu. in. motor in it. When I
bought it the car was in good shape and had been used as a bracket race car on the
drag strip. I bought a 327 with a truck transmission and installed the motor in the car. The
rear end was 456 geared so the car didn’t go very fast. Top speed was probably 60 miles
per hour but it got to top speed real fast. Later on I put a 283 with a power glide 2 speed automatic
transmission and that was a much better combination with the 456 rear end. During the time I had
the car it was stolen and stripped but I got it back. After a year it was rebuilt and back on the road.

The pot metal inserts for the hood were thrown away by me because I didn't think I needed them ????
I will never forgive myself. Little did I know these inserts are impossible to find. I thought they were junk.

De4nnis I put the hood scoop on and I bought it from the west side body only no motor or transmission and the owner was a kid who used the car as a bracket racer. I have some other photos of a 66 Chevelle similar car same color. Leave your contact info. Brittner or something close was the owners name before me and I paid about $600 ....

This car looks a lot like the one I owned. I had it around 1970-1974. I lived at 41st Ave and Denton Lane in Phoenix. Same color. It had a great engine in it when I sold it to some guy for about $500. I wonder if it is the same car. I didn’t have that hood scoop though. I got a picture of it around here somewhere but can’t find it right now.

Nice, Jeff. I love to see old school hot rods like this. Today, it's all about tubs, tube frames, and all that high-tech stuff. I'd love to build a car like that someday, maybe a '70-'73 Camaro as a Baldwin-Motion replica.
