Along the Vaigai River families came to celebrate the end of Matthu Pongal day, Matthu meaning cow. Indeed this day is the festival of the cow celebrated with the Jallikattu on the countryside and also here in the city families ornamenting their cows with flower garlands bringing along to the River, blessing them and giving the Puja (offering) bananas to the animals to spoil them today. The ladies were standing together to protect the holy flame from the wind blowing along the river, the lights of Sellur in the background.
