The Eagle Rock Temple of Thirukalikundram lies on on the top of the Vedagiri hill wich is 160m high. You climb up to the temple by never ending steps, barefoot as shoes are not allowed on any holy temple-ground in Tamil Nadu. Just before noon everyday two eagles stop at the temple and are fed by the temple priests. The legend tells that these two birds are actually saints who stop to rest at the temple on their flight between Varanasi and Rameshwaram.
In the temple there are some nice glas oilamps hanging made in my country Belgium !
From top you got a nice view over the landscape and the small busy town at the foot of the hill.
And then ....
You have to go down while the sun was heating up all those steps . You burn your feet running from shade to shade. You wish that you had taken with you a pair of thick socks .
