Palo Duro Canyon is located in Canyon, Texas, just south of Amarillo in the Panhandle. At 120 miles long, the canyon system is the second-largest in the U.S. after only the Grand Canyon. Though only 800 feet deep at it's deepest, the canyon exposes sediments laid down as much as 250 million years ago during the Permian period.
