Yes! We certainly did think they were a great team - very well liked by the men.
This picture reminds me of something else. A Col. Nightingale trademark was his jungle cammies - he always looked snappy in them and they were hard to come by at the time as they were right on the verge of being phased out/not allowed by the Army for wear. He must have had a ten year supply of the things because they'd been out of production for some time! Bear in mind, this was a few years before the lightweight, ripstop BDUs became a reality.
Regarding Urgent Fury, we deployed with the heavy cotton, original BDUs - the horrible contraptions with the high Elvis collar - and within a week or so had thrown them in the burn barrel in favor of Vietnam era OD greed jungle fatigues! Division had managed to scrounge them for us, no doubt due to the leadership of men like Col Nightingale. THANK GOD - the BDUs were just terrible in this environment and were roundly hated by the troops.
