We had six M102 howitzers from 82d Division Artillery on the island. The battery was split and three guns were at Salinas, near the airfield and the other three were at Pearl I believe. I was with A 1/319 FA. at Salinas and remember fire missions calling for shells to Calviny with High Explosives (HE) and later illumination rounds at night during te first few days. After a week or so, we Air Mobiled the three guns from Salinas and went to Pearl and set up and relaxed!
