The A700 is an excellent compact carry around camera that is great for hiking, backpacking and travel trips where weight and size are considerations.
The 6x lens is outstanding with terrific corner to corner sharpness/clarity/color and almost no noticeable color fringing in high contrast areas. The A700 has the full range of controls that you'd expect on larger cameras and the battery life is amazing for running on just two AA batteries.
Bob ... Your pictures and Bill McClung's between them have sold the Canon A700 to me!
My current camera is a Sony V1 with a fantastic Zeiss Sonnar lens giving great picture quality, but 'advanced galloping senility' means I find its tiny LCD screen difficultto see clearly. The A700's 2.5" screen is just what I need.
My compliments on an interesting and beautifull collection! ... johnbach

Thanks for your review. I've been shopping around for a new camera and I'm definitely going to be looking at the a700. Thanks.

I saw your review of the Cannon A700 on Cnet. I found it to be very informative. What I would like to know is if you have had any problems with grit collecting on the lens as another user stated...and if you have tried printing out any of your pictures and of what size? Is the quality good in printing? How far would you say you can be from an object to zoom before it begins to become distorted?
I appreciate the time to answer these questions.
Thanks,
Susan
