Do not Disturb - Drummer
by David Williams

While I was doing a wood working project outdoors with rough cut oak, hornets kept paying a visit to scrape off layers of this board. They are using the wood to build a nest somewhere near by.

argh where that epi pen ;-). I'm not alergic but know others that are and they would be afraid of this very well executed photo.

Eeeesh! Look at that outfit. This guy (gal?) is dressed to kill :-)
Really amazing details and texture, David. Now get me outta there!

Oh no, keep that thing away from me! Great shot.

Very fine and detailed macro. Good choice of long tele. Not wise to go near them. Our hornets are yellow and black, tiger like, with much longer back side. Pretty nasty bugs, 1,1/2 inch long (3,5cm). Few stabs could kill the man and not allergic one.

Good macro. Sharp and clear.

We have these too; their faces remind me of clowns. Excellent shot - the tiny hairs are amazing and you can even see the texture of its skin. I also like the soft focus all around the subject and the backlighting behind the antenna.

That's really interesting. Is this what we would call a 'paper wasp'? Down south we had mostly 'mud dubbers'. I looked up the differnce between a wasp and a hornet once, now I don't remember a word I read. LOL I'll have to check it out. This fellow looks chunky in the body compared to my thought of a wasp. Maybe that is part of the difference? This is an excellent shot. Look at all those hairs!
