Low key meets red meets still life, I like it but as others have said shooting against black is always tough to light just right.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments and critiques. The basket is made from the leftover root of a Shan Mu tree after deforestation in China, providing some extra income for villagers. The bottom is the cut left from the trunk - I can count the rings if my eyes were better ;-) The handle is a root that grew back around into the wood mass. After some planning, the basket is shaped and hollowed out. Pretty nifty use of otherwise wasted wood. I agree about the lighting; in a few months, I'll have learned more about setting up still lifes. At least I hope so! :-)

Nice still and beautiful basket as others have pointed out already. I agree with Moroslav's suggestion about light, but it is pretty enjoyable as is.

Stefan! I like this picture very much, basket specially. You have a single light source I think. May I suggest adding one more light in the back (far away- small one) to add some perspective and 3D look. Picture will look more alive IMHO.

What a lovely basket that is! Is it teak wood? Can I have it? lol This is a beautiful still life, the fruit looks yummy, but that basket really steals the show for me.

Great basket, and nice to see you didn't stick with those awful cliche' red delicious apples (those look like macintoshes). I'm not sure I like the dark background. The fruit might stand out better in bright sunlight - shot low with lots of clear blue sky behind. Your call of course...
