Great shot! Shallow DOF worked well - there's not too much distraction from the background.

Thanks again for the comments. I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw this guy, I had to wait for a couple of planes to land before I figured out the angles, about every 45 seconds or so at Heathrow. One of those situations where you are mumbling under your breath “don’t you dare move”!!

A great candid. It really takes you by surprise. The magazine draws the eye and if you notice, the aircraft on the cover echoes the one in real life. I also thought the airliner may be a bit too out of focus to be recognizable, but once I backed up a bit away from my monitor to a normal viewing distance, it is effective. If it were much more in focus, it would be distracting. This is an outstanding photograph, not many like it I'll bet.

Great candid, some nice dynamics in the back, and I really like how the magazines in the guy's hand add to the picture. I have friends that are serious spotters, I might join them next time they go to the local airport for some shots, even if I am way underequipped for such shooting...

A really nice catch, Colin. Glad you didn't get run over.

The magazines - especially the brilliant red lettering - immediately caught my attention. My gaze then moved up the watcher's figure to his neck/cheeks with their nice lighting, and thence to the background jet. So you've given my eyes someplace to travel - and I appreciate that. I really like the shot.

I do hope, though, that this plane isn't a case of an object being "closer than it appears"! :)

This is a candid - there is a viewing stand alongside the north runway at Heathrow and everyday there are people there, so I went out lunchtime and took some shots. To get the angle with this guy and the planes landing I had to stand in the entrance of a busy carpark so nearly got run over a few times :-)

Very nice capture is this an opportunity shot or a contrived one?

Sorry, I meant no ship.

This one is nice in its own way, but I like (no sheep) better.

I agree with Shirley. This is a great shot; I like specially the composition. endika

Awwww, now this is great example of DOF making the shot. The 747 would have been more of a distraction then a compliment had it been in focus. Am I making any sense? The magazines in hand, gazing over his shoulder at his interest. Very nice!

That is rather threatening Colin; the plane looks as though it is turning toward you
