The shadowed half of the face - with just a pinpoint of light from the hidden eye - adds a great deal to the impact of this shot. It's as if the kick-boxer has a dual persona: the unsmiling, serious competitor, and the everyday child filled with hopes and laughter. You've caught much of the essence of what it means to grow up and take on increasing challenges. My small community has just started an amateur boxing club, coached by a woman. The young people seem to love it and are proving to be winners in competitions. Good luck to Dom. Brenda

I know that my girls taking self-defense classes has given them a different sense of self confidence. Hope you are able to help him with the watercolor brush and paper :-) Very nice portrait - the subdued lighting on the right creates a whole world of expression. * niggle - clone the spot top right. Yes especially you dad! Even playing around he has a height advantage if you know what I mean! Really, this photo has a 'punch' all it's own. It's a one-two knock out Alistair. What a cute son you have even with the gloves up.

Great portrait, natural light yes? He looks like he about to give you a thump :-) Small nit, there is a tiny highlight to the top right that distracts a little
