I have never lived where neighborhood pubs were popular, but they are popular in the North East and what we euphemistically call the Midwest and most of the time they add character to the community. Not many of them look anything like Sullivan Saloon. but this is more than a Saloon as one can plainly see :)

I forgot the mention the "Fawcett Inn" - this name has always made me laugh ...

Hmm, gives me an idea for a small photo project. There are dozens of pubs in Portmouth, ranging from the nicely named "Grave Diggers" :-)

Hey Colin, thanks for the comments. It is wholly unfortunate that this fine looking establishment sits in the middle of the run down area of the city and it's history, I am sure is not as colorful as Nell Gwyn's It most likely was established by an Irishman who was run out of New York city for selling watered down beer and he settled in Knoxville.:)

Well, now you have me wondering about it's real history... I will have to check it out on google.

Ah, now this looks like a typical street corner Pub in the Portmouth area, one of my favourites looks like this one and is called the Nell Gwyn, who was the mistress of Charles II. She would have been in the window like this :-)
