1988? Colin

2nd - The Shaft -- Colin

Petra, Jordan

In Arabic, Al Siq, which forms the entrance to Petra, Jordon. This is probably one of the most famous passageways in the world so I couldn’t resist posting this one.

I was lucky enough to visit several times back in the days when the site wasn’t mobbed by tourists and the only way in was by foot or on horseback.
A scan of a very old negative.

Been there. It is simply amazing to walk through the canyon and stumble upon this site. Great take on Petra in your pbase. I was trying to explain it to my wife, but came across something better. Your pictures. Cheers.

You are right, there is just so much there its hard to fail and the colours change with the light. The Siq and the tomb about to come into view were featured in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"

Ha! You only have to be there - with camera. Excellent shot, fits the theme in the best way.

My first response was the same as Brent's. WOW! I'm amazed by all the colors in the stone, and keep leaning to the right to see more of the carvings in the cliffs ahead. What a great shot Colin!

Wow. Just amazing. I have never seen this before - the figure adding scale really does it for this shot. Thanks for sharing, Colin - brent
