Thanks Katherine,
Other than the beating wings, the rest of their body can be essentially motionless when they are hovering. I suspect that someone that is not as slow as myself could probably get a sharp image at an even slower shutter speed under the right circumstances.

terrific. I'm surprised you got this at only 1/180.

Thanks Jono,
Shirley, the foot is not missing, it is just tucked farther back in the feathers. I have enough other shots of this particular bird to verify that she is not missing a foot.

I agree that the feeders do look like a toy, but the birds like them. I had read a post by a person that was inundated with hummingbirds. That person needed more feeders to satisfy all the birds so grabbed a half dozen of the cheap feeders. He was quite surprised that the birds greatly preferred the cheap feeders to the fancy ones. For me function is more important than looks.

Say Bob, did you notice this little one has a foot missing? Or it sure looks that way. Jono is right about the hummingbird feeders looking like a toy, I have seen some new wonderful blown glass ones at Target but they were around 40 bucks. Ouch

HI Bob
This is great - and as Shirley says, it's right on theme (I do wish they could make the feeders look a little less like kid's toys though!).
best wishes

I love your shots Bob and this one fits perfectly into the theme. I like that it shows the kinder side of mankind and nature. The respectful side of us. The colors and little buzzing wings are just great.
