4th Place-first tree - charlie

A young boy and his father choose the perfect tree for Christmas. Sadly this lot is on the market to be sold and this may prove to be the last year for this tree seller in this location. He first set up shop selling pumkins and chritmas trees in 1973.

Very nice. I like the Open sign in the window. I wonder if they will put a closed sign.

This is the kind of picture that is like a memory. Very sharp in some ways and in others kind of hazy. Perhaps someday when all we have is our Walmarts we will reallize there is more about what we buy and own than material goods. A deep and true statement, Charlie.

Thanks Frank. Something naturally sad about Christmas trees in general I think. I like the low vantage point here and the somber mood. Speaks to the importance of the child and the old trailer somehow as well. It's rare for me to be so observant but I actually waited and hoped they would line up between the lights as happened. Glad you got something from it.

I keep looking at this Charlie. I like it very much. It has an intrinsic sadness about it which, given the story, illustrates how well you've captured the spirit of it.

Glad you like it Shirley. It brought back memories of my childhood. (it always does) Seems the best trees come from the oldest sellers in the most rundown lots. I personally could never buy a tree from a mall parking lot or Home Depot. It just does not have the same feel for me. I will surely miss this place, as I live 1 short block from it and can see the lights from my window.

It's always so sad to see traditions go. You might have to change your mind about words with photos. This photo is right nice without knowing the story behind it. But, some of the most memorable and powerful photos in my life time have been taken with a story behind it that made it stick forever in my mind. I think we'll all have these images stick in our head longer knowing the story behind them. Thanks for this beautiful one Charlie
