You've captured quite an oddity Don! I like your explaination (guess) as good as any I could think of. We're getting a thin layer of ice on the lakes around here now. I can't believe how fast a good sized lake can freeze over. I'm glad you went out and froze a bit to give us a good look at these too!

I don't recall seeing ice float down the river in the shape of circles before. Not sure how they are formed Bruce.
Starnge the ice flowed fast and was only on one side of the river. Maybe the ice formed cicles from spinning down the river at a fast pace, but that just a guess.
