Very nice Borialis shot! Most shots of the northern lights are just that, shots of the northern lights. I love that you included the surroundings in this shot. Love your title too!

The colours in this are just so dramatic - a very strong image. Kate

Thanks for the comments everyone. I feel like a bit of a fraud with this one as the most interesting part was purely accidental.....;-)

Charlie, it is like stepping into another world. The shadow of the tree next to you reaching into the water - the clouds and waves looking vaguely similar and then the incredible lights - just very nice - brent

i'm with Flick here Charlie - superb capture!

it's almost a pic in two halves, but the transitions between really do serve to make it whole. theres a beautiful, almost like tapestry quality to the night sky. thanks heaps. adrian

Yes Flick,
This turned out to be a rather interesting image. A friend called and woke me to say the Northern Lights were visable, which is pretty rare in Chicago. I shot this in almost complete darkness thinking I would just end up with the lake and sky. A dim light behind me in an alley created the shadows of me and the trees as it was about a 10 sec exposure. Crazy huh....

Oh, wow Charlie, this is superb - this is CD cover or book jacket material. Wow!
