The googly eyes were obviously a student prank; they weren't there on my previous visits. I wonder if the eyes' added weight could cause a slight slowdown in oscillation. The bob is hollow brass, 107 kg (235 lb) on a 15-meter (50-foot) cable.

Back in the day, this was a brilliant demonstration that Earth actually spun on its axis. Today, I wonder if anybody watches it long enough to even see two pegs knocked over. Like Shirley, I think the eyes are great. --Stefan
